During the past six months, the DAS/Office of
Fixed Asset Management and the OAKS Fixed Asset
Team have been engaged in a project to create
a single source of data for all state-owned buildings
and land. When completed, this database will be
used for financial reporting, risk management,
providing data to DAS/OGRIP's Geographical Information
System (GIS), responding to public inquiries and
eventually for converting data to OAKS. In addition,
this data could be included as part of a secured
database used to plan for and respond to emergencies
involving the population of the State of Ohio.
The project has been named Migration of Ohio's
Real Estate (MORE). The project management team
consists of DAS/GSD administrators from the Office
of Fixed Asset Management, Office of Risk Management,
Office of Real Estate Services and the OAKS Fixed
Asset Team. Richard Hickman, Deputy Director of
DAS/General Services Division, is the project
sponsor.
The project began with the team looking at records
of state-owned buildings being used by the Office
of Risk Management for the state's Catastrophic
Property Insurance program. These records were
then compared to buildings maintained on the state's
Fixed Asset Management System (FAMS) and to the
various agencies' in-house inventory reports.
These comparisons uncovered several inconsistencies.
During the next several months, the MORE project
team will be working through the OAKS agency liaisons
to resolve these inconsistencies.
