On Thursday, April 27, 2006 more than 200 people attended a PeopleSoft Software Demonstration sponsored by the Ohio Administrative Knowledge System (OAKS) Project. The session provided a general overview of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and PeopleSoft, the software purchased by the State of Ohio for the OAKS implementation.
The session opened with remarks from Executive Program Manager David White followed by a presentation about best practices of ERP systems from Accenture Project Director David Wilson. Representatives from Oracle Corporation, the company that makes PeopleSoft Software, demonstrated the basic functionality of an out-of-the-box PeopleSoft system.
"We wanted to showcase capabilities of PeopleSoft for those state employees with little or no experience with ERP systems," stated OAKS Executive Program Manager David White. "It is important to us that all employees understand the benefits that the OAKS implementation will provide for our state government," he said.
Attendees watched as Oracle representative Paul Pecorin walked-through Human Capital Management (HCM) transactions related to hiring, time-entry, promotions, transfers and payroll. Financials transactions were also demonstrated by Mark Standorf of Oracle Corporation for critical financial operations including accounts receivable, purchasing, and accounts payable.
"I was most impressed by the software's ease of use, the functionality of the base program, and the many inherent opportunities for greater efficiency through rapid sharing and coordination of information," stated Bill Bone, Agency Implementation Team Workforce Transition Coordinator for the Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. "When I left the demonstration, I had a much greater appreciation of the potential of the Peoplesoft software and was very excited about the future possibilities it presents."
The two four-hour sessions were conducted at the Ohio Historical Society to accommodate all interested agency representatives. A brief question and answer session followed the demonstration where OAKS project leadership responded to questions specifically related to the design of the new OAKS system.
The purpose of the OAKS project is to implement an ERP system to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the administrative processes of the State of Ohio. The first of six scheduled implementations will occur on December 18, 2006 and will include software functionality for the state's human resources processes. Completion of the entire system is set for July 2008.
