OAKS Financials is live! As of 7:00 am Monday, July 2, 2007, State of Ohio employees will use OAKS, the Ohio
Administrative Knowledge System, a statewide enterprise resource planning (ERP) application, to manage financial business processes for the first time. This major milestone
is the third and largest of six software releases planned for the system. Implementation of the OAKS Financials module enabled the Office of Budget and Management (OBM)
to retire its 22 year old Central Accounting System (CAS) on Friday, June 29. When asked to describe what this implementation means to the state, OAKS Executive Progam Manager
David L. White said , "Release three of the OAKS application is a critical component that will enable the State to maximize the benefits of implementing an ERP system.
Implementation of this release has been an overwhelming success. The financials release is the culmination of more than two years of planning, design, training and implementation
and the system is now being used by thousands of employees across the state". The OAKS Executive Sponsors and staff of the program management office wishes to thank all
state agencies, boards and commissions for their assistance, diligence and commitment in helping to make this milestone a reality. OAKS will assist all employees in working
together to transform the way Ohio does business, today and tomorrow.
The OAKS system is an online enterprise resource planning application similar to many used by large private sector companies, to consolidate their business operations
for efficiency and cost-savings. For the State of Ohio, the OAKS system will replace numerous outdated and fragile computer systems which have been in use for
30 years or more.
